i Parisforstaden Maisons Laffitte, ca. 18 km nordvest for Paris.
Camping Caravanning International is located on a small island in the Seine
in Maisons Laffitte, approx. 18 km's north west of Paris. The camp site
is fine with its own restaurant and a well equipped shop with long opening
hours. The sanitary measures were a bit below average at the time of our
visit, mainly because only one of the two sanitary buildings was in use,
and there was also a problem with adequate water pressure. The noise level
can be quite high sometimes, the sources being river boats, the nearby
railway, a road on the other side of the river, and although none of the
airports are nearby, the high density air traffic pattern seem to be more
or less overhead. The nearest RER station is 10 minutes walk from the camp
site, and there are trains to/from Paris at least every 20 minutes from
early morning to after midnight. You may change to the Metro at the stations
La Defence or Charles De Gaulle (under Arc de Triumphe). If you intend
to spend more than a couple of days in Paris, a "Carte Orange" which gives
the right to unlimited travel with buses and the Metro within the zones
you've purchased may be the best bargain. Note, that the "carte" is always
valid from Sunday to Saturday, so it may not be a good idea to buy one
on a Thursday. "Carte Orange" may be purchased at the RER station in Maisons
Laffitte, and you may also have your photo taken there (required for the
"carte").
